Deshaun Watson and the Tigers stole the show on Monday night – and won the National title for Clemson for the first time since 1981.

Clemson quarterback, Deshaun Watson, had a stellar second half in the CFP National Championship game, throwing for over 250 yards and three touchdowns to seal the victory for the Tigers in a rematch of last year’s national championship. For the game, Watson completed 36 of 56 passes and threw for 420 yards against one of the season’s best defenses.

Alabama appeared to be in control for most of the game, even taking a 24-14 lead late in the third quarter. But the scoreboard didn’t tell the full story. Alabama quarterback, Jalen Hurts, struggled to hit his receivers. He completed only 42% of his passes and had a QB rating of 88.1 for the game, compared to Watson’s 145. The Crimson Tide averaged 6.5 yards per rush attempt and ran for 221 yards as a team, but they weren’t able to score enough points to put the Tigers away.

Clemson was able to move the ball fairly well, but lost two fumbles, both on their own side of the field – one of them giving Alabama the ball at the Clemson 16 yard-line in the third quarter, resulting in an Alabama field goal. Late in the third quarter, after falling behind by ten points, Watson took over. He put together touchdown drives of 72 yards and 88 yards. After an Alabama touchdown with 2:07 remaining in the game, which gave them a 31-28 lead, Watson led the Tigers down the field on a game-winning drive of 68 yards with only one second remaining in the fourth quarter. He connected on a two-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Renfrow, giving Clemson a 35-31 lead after the extra point.

After recovering a subsequent onside kick, Clemson ran off the final second to win their first national championship in 36 years.

Thanks to everyone for participating!

We had 27 contestants and 7 different winners this week – so more than 25% of contestants were able to earn rewards for their selections. The winning payouts for this week are valued at approximately $16 (outright win), $8 (2-contestant tie), and $4 (4-contestant tie).

This post concludes the college football contests for this season. I hope everyone has enjoyed them! Please let me know what you thought about the contest format and the presentation of the posts.

If you know any sports enthusiasts, bring them to Steemit! There is a very large sports audience out there, so getting fans involved on Steemit could unlock a potentially huge market for adoption and engagement on the platform. Sports fans love to talk about their teams and players – and Steemit will give them an opportunity to do that while possibly getting paid for it! If there ever was a championship formula, that would be it!

Thanks again for all of the support this season!

Did not see that happening, Great game! Thanks for the contest @ats-david.

Thanks for supporting them. We'll have to make sure you win something before the NFL season is over!

I definitely need to be on the lookout for these. These really up the "fun" factor and give me something to root for in just about any game . Thanks for ruining it.

Thanks for ruining it.

Ruining it? Gee, thanks a lot! By the way - the next post should be up tomorrow evening for the NFL divisional playoff round.

I'm really looking forward to this weekend for the Fantasy Challenge. This will make or break a lot of the players involved. I hope I picked the right teams to win.

LOL. Oh man... writing is a skill. So is proofreading. I'm really sorry about that. I thought about going back and editing it now... but that would ruin the joke (or would it run the joke). I'll just wear the dunce cap on this one. Thanks for RUNNING it.

I will definitely get in on the divisional round.... if you'll still have me. ;)

I suppose I'll allow it. I'm a forgiving man.

Usually...

I returned the 29.05 as you asked, thank you for the payout!

Thanks! I appreciate that. Sorry for the mix up. I was just really excited to pay all of the winners!

No problem. I've been having a lot of luck with your contests, I hope it continues!

Wow, loving these games. It would be cool if you could run stats on who has won the most picks as the games continues. I think I've won 3 times! Rock/steem on.

Thanks so much @ats-david - that was a nice surprise ! Thank you as well for the very good game summary, it was a great game! :)
