2017 NFL Pro Bowl Preview and Free-For-All Contest

The Pro Bowl is almost here and we’re going to celebrate it Free-For-All style!

The Pro Bowl is the NFL’s version of an all-star game. The two conferences – the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC) – will square off in Orlando, Florida at Camping World Stadium, which is commonly known as the Citrus Bowl. Coaching the AFC team is the Kansas City Chiefs’ head coach, Andy Reid. The NFC will be led by Dallas Cowboys coach, Jason Garrett.

Last year’s game didn’t pit conferences against each other, but instead had two former players – Michael Irvin and Jerry Rice – drafting their players from the Pro Bowl selections. It was a high-scoring game, with Team Irvin grabbing the victory, 49-27. With actual coaches back in the mix, this game may be played a little more conservatively, so the scores probably won’t be quite as high as last year. But there will be a lot of firepower on the field, despite some of the league’s best players not attending due to playing in the Super Bowl next week.

It should be a fun game, nonetheless. You can watch it on ESPN at 8:00pm EST this Sunday, January 29th.

On that note – let’s have a little fun this week!

Statistical Categories for the Pro Bowl

There will be five statistical categories for the Pro Bowl, listed below. Due to the nature of this game, there are no previous reliable stats, so I have provided league averages for the 2016 regular season. Some numbers have been rounded for game accuracy.

1. AFC – Team Passing Yards: Season average per AFC team is 235.

2. NFC – Team Rushing Yards: Season average per NFC team is 105.

3. Total Combined Turnovers: Season average per game is 3.

4. Total Combined Sacks: Season average per game is 4.

5. Total Combined Penalties: Season average per game is 14.

How to Play and Win

  1. In a comment on this post, submit your predicted results in the order that they appear above. You can number your selections (1–5) as they are above or not, but if not, I will assume that they are in the correct order and the results will be checked in that order. ONLY ONE COMMENT SUBMISSION PER USER, PER CONTEST.

  2. Once your comment is submitted, I will confirm it after the deadline for entering the contest. The deadline for submission this week is 6:00PM NEW YORK TIME (UTC -5) ON SUNDAY EVENING. After submissions are confirmed by me, any new entries or edits to comments will automatically disqualify you from the contest. So make sure that you have accurately submitted your numbers before the deadline.

  3. There will be one winner for each statistic. The winner will be the contestant closest to the actual final statistics from the game. There is no limit to the number of stat categories that you can win. Contestants can potentially win one or all of the categories.

  4. The contest is funded with a minimum pot of 50 STEEM. The total pot distribution will be divided evenly between the five statistical categories. Each category winner will receive 20% of the total pot. In the event of a tie, the pot will be split between the tying contestants for that category.

Man I haven't watch the pro bowl since I was a kid. Thanks for giving me an excuse to casually watch. Excellent categories. Definitely a challenge. I love picking big numbers but for this one I may try the complete opposite extreme for one. Should be fun!
