New stars shine in Fantasy Premier League Week 2

in #football7 years ago

It’s been a week of surprises in Gameweek two!

Some players have emerged from the shadows, while others have failed to live up to expectations.

Defenders have turned into scoring machines this week, and not the ones you would expect. It’s also been a great week for Stoke & Leicester City, who both shared their first wins this season.

Not so much for Arsenal, who couldn’t do it on a cold night in Stoke.

Goalkeepers:

Winners:––

What a week it has been for 24 year old Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland. The shot-stopper earned a clean sheet and made six saves in their 1-0 win over Arsenal. For that, the English keeper is our standout for the week with 11 points.

  • You can buy Butland on the cheap for just 5.0 points, although beware that Stoke play Manchester United, Newcastle United and Chelsea FC in the next three games.
  • Our BEAST of the round is Crystal Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey by a long shot. It’s not every-day you get a keeper that is in a losing side and still scores nine points. Incredibly, Hennessey saved 12 shots and was only beaten in the last 20 minutes against Liverpool on the weekend.

  • Our MR CONSISTENT is Huddersfield keeper Jonas Lössl. The newly promoted side has incredibly won back to back Premier League games, thanks to a wonder-goal from Aussie Aaron Mooy . Lössl has totaled 17 saves in two games, and racked up eight points in their 1-0 win over Newcastle United.

Losers: Judging by the first two Premier League games, it’s clear that big team goal-keepers won’t save the day (pardon the pun).Rival clubs Arsenal and Tottenham were the worst of the bunch this week. Here’s why.

  • Petr Cech is currently enduring a living nightmare so far. The veteran keeper has only managed to make two saves, whilst conceding four goals and in two games. Most would argue it’s not his fault, rather the lackluster defending from the Gunners. I’m the guy that’s had Cech in my team from the start, knowing that Arsenal were sloppy at the back. My hope that Cech would earn points from saves has backfired majorly.
  •  No sunshine and rainbows for Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris either. He has copped an absolute hiding from Chelsea and defender Marcos Alonso in particular. Lloris made no saves in their 2-1 loss to the Blues, and only scored one point. For a keeper worth 5.5, that’s a flop of a round.

Defenders:

 OUT OF NOWHERE!

  • Marcos Alonso has scored not one, but two goals for Chelsea against Tottenham. He may be a defender, but the Spanish wing-back has pulled off a superb free-kick. His second goal came from a low driven shot, beating an out of form Lloris with ease. Two goals + Clean Sheet + Bonus = 16 points
  • Leicester’s new signing Harry Maguire is proving to be worth the £12 million transfer fee. The gun defender picked up an assist in round one against Arsenal, and scored against Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. He racked up 15 points this week, meaning he’s a must if you’re looking for a bargain worth only 5.0.
  • Eric Bailly also reached 15 points after scoring and kick-starting Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Swansea over the weekend. Whilst we don’t think he will score every week, he is definitely an asset to have as United are expected to pick up a bucket load of clean sheets.

Midfielders:

  • POGBOOM! The spotlight continues to shine on Paul Pogba, as he backs up his stellar performance in round one. The French midfielder has scored two goals along with two assists, and it’s all due to one man. Nemanja Matic has been the engine in United’s midfield, and is the sole reason why Pogba is getting in so many advanced forward positions. He scored 15 points this week, and has totaled 23 points in just two games! He may be a little expensive for 8.1, but we recommend signing him up as a regular starter.
  • BACK IN FORM- Riyad Mahrez is back with a vengeance. The Algerian attacker has been dominant at the least for Leicester City. His last two performances are mirroring his Premier League winning season under Claudio Ranieri. Mahrez set up both goals in Leicester’s 2-0 win against Brighton, and picked up 11 points this week. He’s worth a little more than Pogba at 8.5, but certainly worth it if you can afford to splash the cash.
  • LAST BUT NOT LEAST- AUSSIE AARON MOOY! The haters said: “He’s not good enough for the Premier League, he’ll definitely flop..”Don’t put him in your Fantasy team, he rarely scores or assists…”⠀

Aaron Mooy 2 games, 1 goal, 1 assist… only getting started! He also scored the goal of the weekend. He’s only worth 5.6. Get him now!

Forwards:

  • FLYING START – We don’t blame Javier Hernández for failing to score against a clinical Manchester United in round one. Week two was a different story, with the Mexican scoring a double for West Ham in their 3-2 loss for Southampton. The 29 year old striker scored 13 points and could of had more if it wasn’t for Marco Arnautovic’s stupid red card. The new signing was sent off for a stray elbow, resulting in West Ham’s loss.
