🍔 Streetfoods in the Philippines that Everyone Must Try [Mga pagkaing kalye sa Pilipinas na dapat tikman ng lahat] Part II

in #foods7 years ago

As I mentioned in the first installment, I will continue to present more of the street foods that the Philippines has to offer. This is a must read for those who has not experience eating street foods yet here in the Philippines.

If you are going to the Philippines and would like to try some foods out in the streets. Here are my suggestions, just make sure to buy it from a store who has health or sanitary certificates. If the vendor is mobile, make sure to check if everything is clean before making a purchase. I love cheap foods compared to those expensive buffets or meals served at fancy restaurants and hotels. I have been eating street foods since I was a child and I, thankfully, haven't been sick up to now, I am just cautious where to buy so you should too.

The first one today will be "ADIDAS" or the chicken feet. Who doesn't like chicken? I believe everyone loves chicken but what if you were offered the chicken toes or the chicken feet in that matter. Would you give it a try? Yes, you do! It was named after a famous shoe three stripes. Most of the time, you can find this in the street food menu grilled. However, in Chinese restaurants, they steam the feet until the bones are loose and they serve it with their special sauce.

But our topic is chicken feet sold in the streets and not in restaurants. The feet are served in bamboo sticks and best serve hot after grilling. It is also required to dip it in a spicy vinegar sauce. Then you have to chew the feet and only eat the skin, you need to spit out the small bones afterward. Eating the chicken feet is somehow challenging but its one of the best finger foods to serve especially if you are on a tight budget and does not have much to spare when drinking alcohol with friends.

The next street food is the fishballs. These are ball shape food made out of fish and cooked deep fried. Fishball carts often roam around streets looking for possible buyers. So if you see one, just wave at the vendor. The fishballs are being cooked slowly while the cart is moving, once a customer calls the vendor the customer will just get a tiny bamboo stick and pierce the floating fishballs. Then you can choose the sauce you can dip it to. My favorite is the spicy sauce, there's also sweet sauce and vinegar sauce mixed with onions and chilis.

source
The aroma of fishballs being cooked from the cart can reach for a few meters away. So you can easily figure out that a fishball vendor is nearby and you will not miss a chance of eating.

Next one is what we called "Isaw" in English it's the chicken intestines. Filipinos are very creative in making such foods. They find a way not waste the intestines so they figured out to grill it as well just, like the chicken feet. Other vendors deep fry these as well.

source
You might be thinking that the intestine is dirty, yes it is dirty! But the vendors have to boil them first after they remove and clean it from any manure of food the chicken ate. Once boiled in hot water, the bacteria will die then they will curl it up and pierce it with small bamboo sticks. Now the intestine is ready for grilling. It is best served when hot and dipped i vinegar sauce mixxed with onion. This is also one of the finger foods that we choose when drinking alcohol. Its cheap and can be easily found. You just go outside the street and look for a smoke. Follow that smoke and you will find a store selling grilled intestines, chicken feet and many more.

Here ends the part II of the Filipino Street Foods that I wanted to share so stay tuned for more..!
