Coconut Fruit Salad Bowl
A tropical country, trees everywhere, various insects (mosquitoes), dogs, cats and chickens up and about, rain that doesn't fail to fall every day, and fruits at hand. I must be in a tropical rainforest! or I am just currently living in the mountains with my host relatives in this season of rain.
Anyways, what do I do with the fruits? -Make a fruit tower! Nah, fruit salad would be just great. Sorry to pop your bubble, or not, you saw the thumbnail right? hehe ✌️
Okay, let's get on with it. It's easy to make, anyone can do a fruit salad without me stating the process but here's how.
One, find yourself a bunch of fruits.
Go to your local market and find fruits to your liking. You may get fruits that are local in your country or what's in season, that would make it a lot cheaper. You don't need to buy a whole lot, just buy small amounts in assortments of fruit. Also, go with those varying in colors to make your salad visually appealing, yum!
Actually, you can also add non-fruits to the mix, I added Nata de Coco (Coconut Gel) in mine, a typical add-on for a Philippine fruit salad. Whatever you think might enhance your fruit experience, try them!
Nata de coco is a chewy, translucent, jelly-like food produced by the fermentation of coconut water, which gels through the production of microbial cellulose by Acetobacter xylinum.
...uh huh?.. According to Wikipedia
These are what I bought:
- Coconut
- Dragon Fruit
- Mango
- Grapes
- Kiwi
- Canned Pineapple Slices
- Nata de Coco (Coconut Gel)
- Yogurt (optional)
- Condensed Milk (optional)
Cut, slice, dice, slash, prune, shape 'em.
Think outside the box, be creative, be yourself, what floats your boat. Just keep in mind what platter you'll be using. As suggested by my brother, a coconut (from the “tree of life”) would be good to serve it on (great idea!). I've cut some of the fruits bigger than I think I should, I had so little space to fill, it had a very thick rind.
Toss them all together.
The fun part! There are no rules but you can make it visually appealing for the camera, for Instagram or whatever new social media trend there is. Man, I sounded old.
Here's what it looked like, I gave it as a present to someone who's celebrating her birthday. Since I haven't finished all of my ingredients, I made one for family and added a can of fruit cocktail to the mix.
Yup, or you can just do that >.~
You're free to add dressing or leave it as is. I added yogurt with mine and a bit of condensed milk. Sweet :)
O...kay? Wut? Wh-where am I? Carry on? Okay.. now that's spooky.
One might feel insignificant and small but we're not meant to be alone.
Um, so, let's cultivate the best fruit that we are! and this would definitely be a better tasting world with you in it, me, with all of us combined..
