Food photography: Paella, one of the Mediterranean's most famous dishes
Paella is one of the most popular traditional rice-based dishes from Valencia, Spain. It originated in Spain, but it's now enjoyed globally, particularly often in many South American countries.
It can be served with different combinations of vegetables and meats, characteristically seasoned with saffron (to give it the typical yellow color and unique flavor), garlic but also some other spices depending on the area.
As for the origins of the name "paella," it is quite simply the Catalan word for "pan", which is typically large, round and thin-based.
I never miss a chance to order this "piece of sunny Spain" :)
FUN FACT: Do you know why Saffron is so expensive? It´s because of the way it’s cultivated. All the saffron in the world is hand picked strain by strain...
