Discovering Italy - No, we don't eat pizza with ketchup or pasta with meatballs!

in #food8 years ago (edited)

Hello steemians!

Digging into the platform, I've encountered many posts regarding italian food. That being ice cream, pizza, pasta "alla bolognese" or anything else.

That's why I decided to start a blogging serie named "Discovering Italy". In this serie, we're going to analyze some of the italian stereotypes and, also, to explain the food the world got wrong about the italian tradition.

Let's start with two famous example.

Pizza

We don't eat the American Pizzas. Or, at least, that's not what it's considered common here.

We don't eat pizza with ketchup. Most italians are afraid even to pronounce "pizza with ketchup". We neither use mayonnaise, BBQ sauce or anything like that.

In general, we don't use any strange sauce in the "common" type of Pizza.

The most common pizza is the one with tomatoes and "mozzarella" (a type of cheese). Then we put everything starting from sausages and arriving to spicy stuff. The name of the described pizza is "Pizza Margherita" and you can see the photo up here.

Pasta with meatballs

Until I was 16 years old, I never ate pasta with meatballs.

Then, I discovered this type of pasta that in other countries seems to be one of the "typical" italian pastas. So I decided to try it and see if there's some good taste in it.

The answer is yes. It's pretty good.

But...

But it's not a typical italian dish!

"Pasta alla bolognese" is the most typical dish for strangers who came here. That's because it's extremely simple (it's just a simple pasta with tomato sauce).

The reason is that sometims we overprice pastas. So, if you want to eat pasta outside of your own home here, keep an eye on your wallet and DON'T go into famous restaraunts in cities like Milan and Venice (expensive ones). You'll finish to eat 3 grams of pasta spending an insane amount of money.

And...

If you want to discover something more about this Country, please let me know. I'm not an expert so I won't talk about serious stuff, but I can talk about the most common stereotypes and make you laugh about them.

Once again, sorry for my bad english but I'm not a native speaker. I hope you can understand me without problems. If you see some big errors, please let me know and I'll fix them asap.

PS: the images are from pexels and pixabay. They're both sites with copyright-free images.

Don't worry about your English it is clear :-D we have Italian restaurants in the Philippines so I am familiar with your foods but quite expensive. My favorite foreign foods are Chinese Foods. :)

I'm not a fan of italian foods, even if I'm from Italy!

I love Chinese food the most. My boyfriend is also Chinese, and he cooks an awesome rice :P
