Sancocho
I would say that the stew is the official Dominican dish. The word sancocho (never "salcocho", please) used to refer to a loaded with meat broth, vegetables and food not only is Dominican. Several countries in Latin America have their versions of the stew. Luxury Dominican sancocho is seven carnes in which 7 types of meat of 4 animals are mixed with pumpkin, roots and vegetables to create a rich broth as you haven't tried before. The simplified version may contain only beef, and perhaps chicken.

Mangu
Unlike many of the dishes in this list that have their counterparts in other countries of the Spanish Caribbean and the rest of Latin America, the Mangu is unique in the Dominican Republic. It is usually served with fried or scrambled, "salami" Dominican fried eggs and cheese fried, together are known as the three hits. More is considered a breakfast dish, but occasionally found at the dinner table.
Don't be fooled by funny explanations of the origin of the word. The evidence points to an African origin.
Tostones
Tostones is one of those dishes that are in other countries of Latin America, particularly in the Spanish Caribbean, where it is very popular. In the Dominican Republic, these have a special place in our table. Tostones are made based on green banana, and are served as accompanist. I have not yet met a Dominican who does not like tostones. Try it and you'll know why.
Beans with sweet
This unique Dominican dish is an important tradition in our country, where is prepared during Lent in large quantities and shared with family, friends and neighbors.
