TOP 3 FAVORITE BURMESE FOOD

Hello Steemians,

There are many ethnic minority groups in Myanmar. Apart from that, Burmese cuisine has been influenced by a mixture of Chinese, Indian and Thai cuisines due to proximity to these respective neighboring countries. Generally, traditional Burmese food consist of a vast variety of salads and oily curries flavored with fish sauce, bean paste and herbs. As a majority of Burmese people are devout Buddhist, serving beef is a controversial subject here in Myanmar.

My top 3 favorite Burmese food are:

a. Chickpea Tofu Salad
It has a silky and slightly chewy texture. The chickpea tofu is flavored with soy sauce, chili oil, fried shallots, ground peanut and Chinese celery. The closest resemblance to this dish is Sichuan cold mungbean jelly.

b. Shan Green Tomato Salad
Both red and green tomatoes are very juicy and refreshing in the Shan state.

c. Mohinga
Mohinga is a famous breakfast dish in Myanmar. In my opinion, Mohinga is a milder version of Asam Laksa. Banana stems and chickpea powder gave the fish broth a distinct flavor. The crispy split pea cracker bits for garnishing provided an interesting contrasting texture to the silky soft rice noodle.
