Artificial sweeteners linked with weight gain, little health benefit

The scientists took a comprehensive look at more than 11,000 studies and found that, for overweight individuals or those with high blood pressure (hypertension) or diabetes, the benefits of consuming zero-calorie, "non-nutritive sweeteners" were modest to nil. For other people, there was an increased risk of weight gain, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, stroke and heart disease. [7 Biggest Diet Myths]

"Overall, the evidence does not support the intended purpose of weight loss and suggests that there might be adverse effects in the long term," said Meghan Azad, lead author of the review and an assistant professor at the University of Manitoba.

We should be calling Diet Coke, Diabetic Coke because these artificial sweeteners are poison to the human body. Aspartame is literally shit from bacteria and it just happens to taste sweet. Just because something taste sweet doesn't mean you should be drinking, for example antifreeze taste sweet but will drop you deader than a hammer.

Azad noted that the new review was a part of a larger effort to determine the effects of non-nutritive sweeteners on the gut microbiome (bacteria and other microbes in the gut) and cardio-metabolic health.

Studies have shown that the makeup of gut bacteria is less diverse in obese people than in people of a healthy weight, Azad said. Because the gut microbiome plays a big role in extracting energy from food and even in producing vitamins, a less-diverse population might contribute to weight gain, she said.

This is key to the important of good health. These sweeteners along with a million other chemicals in our food and water are killing off our gut bacteria. Without good gut bacteria the body can't properly absorb nutrients from food. One of the best ways of restoring good gut bacteria besides loosing the artificial sweeteners is to drink organic apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar if full of good bacteria and also lowers the acidity of your body which is unnaturally high from all the acid food we eat and drink.

Stevia promoted big as a natural no cal sweetener. I consider myself well read- so I was surprise when I once read that STEVIA the PLANT is Long Known To Cause INFERTILITY & Hormone Issues in Susceptible Women

I have a sweet tooth (even after 2 decades of low-carb), so it's a challenge for me, but I have noticed that I generally feel better (more alert, better sleep, etc.) if I avoid anything sweet.
