Mark Zuckerberg Also Ate That Famous Pounded Yam!!!
Pounded Yam,one of the most enjoyed cuisines in Nigeria. You can ask Mark Zuckerberg, I bet he'll let you know what's what
Mark enjoying a Nice dish of Pounded Yam
This dish is pretty popular with Ekiti State Indigenes…OH YES I am one!!!
So how do we prepare this pounded yam?
INGREDIENTS
1. Tubers of yam
2. Reasonable amount of water
3. Mortar and Pestle or Food Processor
PROCESS
• Peel the yam and slice into a pot
• Pour the water into the pot then boil the yam (till its well cooked)
• Afterwards, put the boiled yam into the mortar. Then POUND with the whole of your might
Don’t worry, you’ll get the energy right back after eating the pounded yam
• Once the yam has been well mashed up to form a thick (rubbery-like) paste, scoop it up and dish out
You can now eat it up with whatever soup you like. I prefer to eat Pounded Yam with Egusi soup.
There's an alternative way of preparing pounded yam these days with the use of powdered yam or the food processor. However there's this loss of Quality Taste
Just Try this dish out!
Well done ooo..., bros. @trillex. It is not only Ekiti people that eat pounded yam. Esan people of Edo State don't joke with pounded yam. In fact, pounded yam is our staple food. Here a post I made last month about pounded yam, https://steemit.com/food/@maryfavour/who-else-wants-to-know-what-the-staple-food-in-my-ethnic-group-is .
Loool. Ilesa and Ondo people do too...
I'm just enjoying the moment as a Proud Ekiti Man😂. Will do check out the post. Thanks a lot
No doubt! Check lately, it has become Mark Zuckerberg's staple food as well!
It's interesting to know the other tribes in Nigeria that cherish pounded yam. Benue people too eat lots of pounded yam. I was in Makurdi for one month on an assignment at the Federal Medical Centre in the year 2002. I ate lots of pounded yam and meat there. I am married in Nsukka, Enugu State. Nsukka people too eat pounded yam, though not as much as the Esan people.
Oh wow! I need to travel to places like you and learn a lot. Thanks for the insight...I am Porud to know you ma'am! 🇳🇬
You are welcome. I'm proud to know you too, my brother. The nature of my job as a public health scientist actively working in the field to implement projects was what made me travel to many states in Nigeria (Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, Lagos, Benue, Oyo, Enugu, Abuja (FCT) etc). I agree with you that travelling to places makes one learn a lot. Don't worry you will travel places too. I love travelling a lot. That is one reason I like my public health profession, apart from the aspects of disease prevention and health education.
Your post is very educating, my brother,@trillex. Guess what? I didn't know that Mark Zuckerberg ate pounded yam when he visited Nigeria. Thanks for the information. I've upvoted and resteemed your post. Please keep them coming. Well done!!! STEEM ON!
Hahaha, Mark did o.
Thanks a lot
Nice! An interesting part of your post -Afterwards, put the boiled yam into the mortar. Then POUND with the whole of your might, reminds me of when I was young. My mum almost 'killed me' with pounding of yam. It was not really a problem on ordinary days when we didn't have visitors. However, on festive days like Christmas, New Year, Easter , birthdays etc. I 'suffered' . My mother will tell me to peel 3- 4 large tubers of yam for pounded yam. When it is cooked, I will pound and pound and pound until all my strength is gone. I use to cry then. The big mortar and pestle is still in my parents house till today.
😂😂this gave me a good laugh 'I 'suffered'. I can imagine the workload..its pretty difficult to prepare pounded yam on a large scale.
Wow! Now I am hungry for pounded yam. We should come together and have pounded yam day at the crib! Lol
YESSSS mate! Monday is free you know... (grinning)
Lol. It will need proper planning
we down son
We should probably use a pool of SBDs to pull it off. Lol
A nice measure of twist in your food post here! Really nice to see and poundo is awesome. Mark Zuck didn't wear his favorite grey shirt!
