Spaghetti Bolonaise
A traditional favorite in my family is our Spaghetti Sauce, the recipe has been handed down at least 3 generations from my grandmother Bernadette and each family member makes it a little differently (sometimes each time), but it never fails to be delicious!
Start with some great ingredients!
I use;
1 lb ground Beef (70/30 or 80/20)
1 lb ground Italian Sausage
1 Medium Yellow Onion
A small can of Tomato Paste
A Regular Can of Tomato Sauce (or Diced Tomatoes)
1 Bell Pepper (or about 5 celery stalks)
Parsley, Oregano, Fennel Seed, Celery Seed, Salt, Pepper, Crushed Garlic (to taste)
2 cups of sliced mushrooms
First, mix all your herbs and spices in a small bowl
Then Do the Same with your Onion and Bell Pepper
In a large pot ( I use a stovetop Wok), brown your sausage and Ground Beef until they start swimming in their fat
Then Stir in your herbs and spices and continue to brown the meat
When the meat has all broken down and cooked all the way through add your vegetables
Sweat the vegetables a bit before adding tomato sauce and paste
PROTIP: Punch a few holes in the bottom of the paste can to allow all of the paste to come out without having to scrape the can!
After it's all stirred together, add mushrooms and simmer for 2-3 hours
PROTIP If you don't like hovering over the stove a crockpot is your friend!
After it's done simmering simply ladle it over your favorite pasta or enjoy with a good chunk of bread!
Bon Appetit!
