Homemade Fresh Juice - What's Your Concoction?

in #food โ€ข 7 years ago (edited)

Yesterday my 8 yo said that we should have fresh juice again, it's been ages, he said ๐Ÿ˜‚ He is right, we haven't used our juicer more than a year now, not really a dust collector, it was still in the box, haven't been unpacked yet from our last move. So I asked my husband to grab more veggies and fruits should he go out to fill up the gas. He did go out, he did grab tons of veggies, but guess what half of them were? LEEKS!!!!๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Who the H would drink leek juice ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

This morning as soon as the boys were up, they remembered that we planned to juice, so we did.

Before anyone is shocked, juicing, so much pulp to waste, what a shame etc. No, we don't waste the pulp like ever, seriously. I use the pulp in my baking and sometimes soup (veggie broth), so whenever I juice I would freeze them pulp. I know many gardeners make compost out of them, so that's another suggestion should you want to juice but don't really know what to do with the pulp. Don't waste them ๐Ÿ˜‰

Our juice this morning only had fresh kale, baby carrots, and we added cucumber as well, which we "pureed" with our regular blender, then mixed into our juice. Guess this momma has to go shopping herself, so we won't end up drinking leeks juice ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  • 6 stalks kale
  • 2 c baby carrots
  • 1 English cucumber

We like juicing much in this house especially in summer. This is one of our ways to make our 4 yo consume veggies. He isn't into soup and for veggies he only likes fresh cucumber and baby carrots. However when we juice, he drinks everything, any kinds of veggies we juice, then the nutrition in the pulp go into baked goods, which he also eats, gladly. Picky baby, but not when it comes to fresh juice.

Hahahaha :D

i like to make green juice with whatever is on hand from the garden and fridge :) kale, pink grapefruit, avocado are the main ingredients and then I toss it all into a blender with acai, banana, apple...pretty much all the fruit that is about to go bad, haha. Top it off with some local honey if there isnt enough sweetness, or coconut milk for a real treat!

Yes, we do the same as well, mixing whatever we have lol

that is great! My 11 year old tried to get me to buy a juicer yesterday!

We got a rather expensive juicer. After a month or two using it, we saw the same exact juicer at a thrift store for suuuupppeerrr cheap ๐Ÿ˜‚

Moral of the story, always check thrift store first, I guess ๐Ÿ˜‚
