Strawberry Shortcake! ~ Happy 4th July!

To me the 4th of July would not be the 4th without Strawberry Shortcake. This is an old time favorite of ours especially this time of year. Great for the summertime get togethers. So bright and refreshing. Video Recipe at the end of the post. Enjoy.

How to Make Old Fashion Strawberry Shortcake

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup shortening
4 cups flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 to 2 1/2 cups sugar
2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups milk
4 eggs

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

In a large bowl cream the shortening and eggs. Add the remaining ingredients alternating the milk and dry ingredients. Mix well each time. Add batter to a well greased and floured 9 x 13 pan. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown or a toothpick comes out clean.

Strawberries:
1 pound strawberries, cleaned and sliced
1-2 tbsp. honey or sugar
Mix well and refrigerate for 1-2 hours until juice
forms. I refrigerate over night.

Spoon strawberries over shortcake.
Drizzle with milk and enjoy. :)
