My Journey to Becoming Cooking Ninja - SARMA
Hello, Steemians!
Let's take a short break from those delicious sweets to try the most favorite and popular traditional Serbian dish - cabbage rolls, here known as "Sarma". There is no single tourist who haven't been delighted after trying these delicious meat filled rolls. If the word about them haven't reach your ears yet, here's how you can prepare them.
Ingredients:
- Minced meat 1 kg
- 600 g onion
- 100 g carrot
- 200 g rise
- 200 g of far or oil
- salt, vegeta, cayenne pepper, pepper
- 50 sheet of sour cabbage
- smoked pork ribs and bacon
Separate sheets of sour cabbage and cut of the root and thicker parts. If some sheets are bigger, slice them so they are all the same size.
Filling:
Finely chop the onion and carrot. Add fat or oil and put it to stew for a bit. Add minced meat, rise and spices, mix while it's still cooking until it's unified. Remove it from the heat and let it cool off a little bit and then start the rolling process.
On the bottom of saucepan put cayenne pepper, little fat or oil, bacon and couple of sheets of cabbage and on top of it start arranging prepared cabbage rolls. To prepare rolls, use a sheet of cabbage and add big tablespoon of filling inside it. Roll from the bottom, then tightly from each side and then finish rolling to the top. Push rolls against each other so they stay firm.
In the middle or on the top add smoked pork ribs or meat and cover everything with couple more sheets of sour cabbage. When everything is prepared for cooking, add 4-5 glasses of water, shake the saucepan so water can reach the bottom and put it to cook. After it boils, decrease the heat so it lightly cooks for 90 to 120 minutes.
You'll get 40-50 delicious cabbage rolls.
Enjoy!
