Bugs as snack?

Do you dare to eat these?
Well, it's getting more and more popular now here in Cambodia to eat bugs. The trend partly comes from the fact that Cambodia went through Pol Pot regime which people are forced to leave the city to do farming at the country sides just to promote the equality in terms of wealth and labor use. With a quick glance, it sounds good to have such regime, yet it didn't when people are threatened with military weapons if they dared to voice. The system worked, meaning that people worked hard equally from morning until evening, but the food provided was barely enough. People were offered only a bowl of liquid porridge and several pinches of salt. They will be punished or killed if they dared to ask for more, not to mention peeling fruit or natural grass to eat.

Due to the starvation, people started to develop a habit of eating insects or bugs with or without cooking. Lizard, scorpions, crickets, coconut worms, and others were very common as they were usually seen during farming. The regime lasted for 3 years 8 months and 20 days, so you can imagine how their lives were.

Even when the regime ended, eating bugs has become a trend and people still enjoy eating despite the bitterness they have gone through with those bugs.
