Duang Saku
Do you know this kind of creature? I don’t know what its name in English, but in Thailand, we call it as ‘Duang Saku”.
And do you know that we can eat it? It may look like worm and be strange if we can eat it, right? But, you know, it has high protein and very delicious!
We cook Duang Saku by stirring them in a pan and mix them with salt. That’s all! This is one of rare dishes that we can find only in the South of Thailand. This picture is from my sister who lives there.
Would you like to try some?

Surprising information dear friend @ tangmo, I have seen in documentaries and eat them raw, and if I imagine that fried should be delicious, in Mexico eat the fried lobster, every country has its own culinary culture. Excellent post my friend
I highly appreciate for your nice comment and thank you very much for sharing your experience with me. I absolutely agree with you, "every country has its own culinary culture". :-)
They look like large versions of the grubs we have in our soil. Do they grow them in farms, etc? Or find them? Might be hard to get used to at first, but everyone has a different thing they eat all over the world. Is it really any different than a living, running about chicken. I think not. And so many of these bugs, etc are SO high in protein. Wiggle on...
Thank you very much for your kind comment . Firstly, let me reply to your questions. In the past, we normally found them in Saku trees and coconut trees, but nowadays, it is not sufficient for the demand of the market, so many people choose to grow them in farms or in big containers so that they can control the quality and quantity of Duang Saku. Duang Saku grow well and rapidly in the farms or the containers. They are bigger in sizes and quantities for providing in the market.
