What are Kcal and calories?
The terms Kcal and calories get thrown around a lot but do you understand what they actually mean? They are important for our Nutrition so in this post I will give you a quick guide to Kcal and calories.
What is a Calorie?
A Calorie is basically a unit of energy; it takes 1 calorie of energy to heat 1 litre of water by 1 degree centigrade.
What is a Kcal?
A Kcal is a Kilo Calorie, basically 1000 calories of energy.
How many Kcal are in our Macronutrients?
- 4kcal in every gram of Carbohydrates
- 4kcal in every gram of Protein
- 9kcal in every gram of Fat
Why are Kcal important in Nutrition?
Because of our need to consume energy to continue being able to function correctly it is important to know how many calories we are consuming a day.
Depending on our lifestyle our weight and our height we will require a certain amount of Kcal a day to maintain that weight and lifestyle. Calories are important but they are not everything when it comes to nutrition, eating the right amount of calories is only the first step of many.
Summary
Unfortunately there are so many diets out there that obsess over calories whilst ignoring quality of food and other lifestyle factors it’s quite annoying, I’m not denying they are a good start point but the way some people are made to obsess is quite shocking.
Calories are only a small part of a much bigger picture, because your goal is Fat Loss I will teach you how to do this safely and show you the other factors that will help you lose fat. These other factors are more important to fat loss than obsessive calorie counting in my opinion.
