Additives, Added in Food during Processing (Part 3)

Additives are chemical compounds that are added in Food during processing for many purposes like to enhance taste, color or for the purpose of preservation like colors, flavors, stabilizers.

I described about how the additives are used to Enhance Flavor of the Food. Here is the next non-preservative effect of additives that is:

Improve Taste

The basic aim to prepare food is not just to have a good looking, smelling food but to produce a food that is tasty and everyone will eat it with full zeal and zest. However food has a very good natural taste. Sometime to enhance this natural taste and sometime to recover losses that are developed in the food by the processing. Like to produce jams we add sugar, honey to enhance its taste. Spices are added in many products that makes the food more palatable.



Some taste improver's are not good for some like sugar is not good for  diabetic patients. So some additives are added which will only provide sweetness to your product but will not produce any glucose. These sweeteners are known as "Artificial Sweeteners".
