Miss. Delicious #26 : Exploring Hong Kong's Honeymoon Dessert de avenue and a Christmas supermarket (photo+video)
Dear Steemit friends:
Aside from being a multi-cultural food haven, Hong Kong is also a prime destination for desserts. Today, I'm taking everyone on a trip to one of Hong Kong's most popular home grown dessert houses - Honeymoon Dessert!
After that, we'll head to very Christmas themed supermarket to see if we can pick up any festive goodies.
Honeymoon Dessert is a very popular dessert house in Hong Kong, so much so that it has expanded it's operations into many franchise stores in China where it's popularity has only surged. They specialise in hand made fruit desserts made with only the most quality ingredients and freshest fruits. Today, I'm visiting the flagship Honeymoon dessert house situated in Tung Lo Wan's shopping center, where I hope to experience the taste of happiness!
Below is the list of foods also available in this shopping center.
In the store, there are two areas, one for Durian lovers, and one for Durian haters! It's so nice to cater for both groups of people.
I chose to sit in the non-Durian area. (Even though I actually really like Durian!)
Looking at the menu, I realised that many of these desserts are very limited in quantity and many are only available at this flagship store. You won't find them in the franchise shops back in China.
I order the Mexican roast corn to try something I wouldn't normally order.
The corn is covered in a layer of roasted cheese.
It's slightly burnt for that barbeque taste. I think it tastes fantastic, not only does it smell great, the crispy outside tastes great too. Try putting some lemon juice on it for that extra bit of zing!
Here is a Chocolate pancake with a variety of fresh fruits. The combination of the sweet chocolate and the slightly sour fruits really complement each other.
This is my choice of drink, a Lychee Strawberry flavoured tea.
Sesame and Peanut flavoured glutinous rice balls in sesame paste.
Honey Grapefruit tea.
Lets continue into the very busy Christmas themed shopping center.
Time Square shopping center is a large scale shopping center and is one of Tung Lo Wan's most recognisable landmarks.
At the entrance, there is a fun 3D effect poster.

Outside the Ice and Snow exhibition, there were queues of people as long as entire streets. Many native people from Hong Kong have never seen snow before.
Because of this, many people will come to the ice and snow exhibition on Christmas eve too try experience the touch of snow for Christmas.

At the entrance, we're welcomed by the Christmas Tree couple. Literally a husband and wife, both dressed up as Christmas trees!
As you can see, everyone is anxiously buying their Xmas presents, so the elevators are very full.
These displays really capture the hearts of Children.

This is Hong Kong's only spiral Elevator.
Lets go on the spiral elevator up to the Christmas supermarket to have a look!

I've never had a durian before... They're pretty crazy looking! What do they taste like?
It's really something else that they have whole seperate sections for people who do and don't like them! ^_^)
I think a durian kinda looks a bit like Pineapple but some the smell can be very off putting to some people. They say it smells like pooh :P
To me, it kind of looks like a big spikeball! Urm... One of these things:
They fall off the tress around here, especially near schools and churches. They're fun to play with, but they kinda hurt if they fall on your head, LOL!
And omg I can't believe they'd smell that way! Gross! :P Such a crazy little fruit LOL
Yeah kind like that, but durian is very big and would probably cause some brain damage if it fell on someone's head from a tree!
XD
Yeah, I imagine so! I've only ever seen pictures of them before, but they look like they're probably pretty big LOL.
The lady is right. To many western people, it does smell like pooh.
The fruit is thorny on the outside. There's a couple of nice pic on wikipedia.

So crazy! They look like they'd be fun to at least try, but if they really smell like that, there's no way I could get close! LOL
Thanks for the link!
Go youtube and search for fear factor durian.
Have some fun.
I love these 3D art thing. HK desserts are always a good break from the walking.
Yeah , i think it's really quite cool. I must find some where that does more of these optical illusion photos. With basically no proper winter in HK, desserts are a must!
This one is so close to me yet I've not find time to visit.

Been a year since I went to the mall, now looking at this I think I miss going to the mall lol.
This thing is heaven!
And happy holidays 2 u too!
Usually the rice balls are eaten during the lantern festival, but they are so tasty I would quite happily eat them all year :)
The one I have here is ginger tea as the "soup" instead of sesame paste - not sure how that's like!?
Yum, Sesame glutinous rice balls are one of my favourites, plus anything with lotus paste! Merry Christmas, I hope your shopping trip was successful!
Thank you opheliafu! It was a very productive shopping trip indeed! Shame my suitcase has limited space, or i'd be taking home some more goodies.
I take a pancake :)
Never a bad choice :D
hahaha I love these ham towels. Have to get one in HK the next time!
The ham towels are so scary! It's like seeing massive walls of meat hung up everywhere.. i knew a guy would like it though!
Doesn't seem like christmas outside there, yet you manage to capture, the feeling of cristmas really well. Cheers!
Thanks ^_^
Looks Great!!
Thanks maxjoy, merry xmas!:)

Glad you discovered the wonder of the Durian! You really should try it out sometime to figure out whether you like it or not, maybe you will, maybe not. Try!
