The All Time Favorite Bagnet
One of the bests that I love from Ilocos is their crispy Bagnet. A big chunk of pork belly which tastes quite similar to the widely known Lechon Kawali.The pork belly is boiled in garlic, salt and pepper and once it’s cooked, other spices will be added and will be kept frozen for a few hours, my mother in law freezes it overnight and deep fry it the next day on medium heat being drizzled with water to bring on the crunch of the pork belly skin. The heat shouldn’t be too high to avoid overcooking the lean part of the meat.
Blame the cravings because I had to ask my husband to take me out and look for a restaurant that serves Bagnet. Ilocos is way too far from Manila for us to have a taste of the original recipe so we just had to look for Bagnet in other places.
We went to Hungry Gabby in Silang Cavite. They used to have a branch in Tagaytay but unfortunately it’s already closed. They also have a branch in BF Homes Parañaque that only opens at night. It’s not really far just a 2 hour drive. We love the taste of bagnet as if its really made from Ilocos. The meat is so tasty and tender and the skin is really really crispy good. Every flavor that was marinated to the meat bursts in every bite. Travelling to Silang Cavite is all worth it because we’re satisfied with the food and it’s really cheap. We did not pay more than 500 Pesos for the two of us.
It was still early after we had out lunch so we decided to go to Twinlakes Tagaytay and have some coffee. I’m the one who took these photos by the way.

hypertension po? bawal din sa amin... hypertensive and mataas cholesterol ni hubby ako naman po diabetic pero masarap eh
