B like Banana
In Banana tfu! Central America we had a chance to discover those fruits again. According to Wikipedia A banana is an edible fruit – botanically a berry (…)The fruit is variable in size, color, and firmness, but is usually elongated and curved, with soft flesh rich in starch covered with a rind, which may be green, yellow, red, purple, or brown when ripe.
In this article we will focus on bananas which we had a chance to try.
Most popular European banana:
So, yep this’s banana, there’s nothing to be added, well known sweet yellow fellow.
Here’s quick recipe for gluten free banana pancakes:
- 1kg well ripe fruits ( darker means better)
- 2 eggs
Smash fruits with the fork and add eggs. Mix everything to make everything as smooth as possible. Heat pan with some oil on it ( we recommend coconut oil) and with the spoon put a portion of the mixture and fry it on both sides and voila! You can eat them with fresh fruits, yogurt, jam etc.
Sweet yellow plantain:
People from Latin America called them like that. Bananas are bigger, rectangularish and you can’t eat them without further preparation. They need frying or boiling. We prefer fried plantains on butter. Of course when there’s no butter around we can use any fat which is around. The darkest are the sweetest ones. Skin isn’t important but inside, like with people 😊
This’s how we prepare plantains:
After such a quick thermal process, plantains are good to eat with porridge or like that. Enjoy!
Green, tough plantains:
That’s how looks fresh green plantain. It’s tough and smells like fresh cucumber. In Panamian supermarket price for one is around 0.35$. From this buddy we are making chips, like potato ones but much better. Here’s whole quick recipe:
We love to have them with cold beer and good movie.
Beautiful pink banana
Walking through Costa Rican rainforests we found such a beautiful things.
We assume, that this specie isn’t edible, because we couldn’t find them on any market. Shape is similar to other bananas which we had a chance to try before, but those are smaller and pink. After pick from the tree didn’t smelled like bananas, were tough and covered with thick skin.
Little sweet treats
We met them in Cuba, Costa Rica and Europe. They aren’t that popular like plantains or bananas. They’re very sweet, sweeter from all above species. For us they were like a snack during hikes. Just for one bite.
We’re sure that there are more types of bananas around the world, but our goal was to show you some flavours from our journey around Central America.
Enjoy!
