AREPAS ANDINAS ... A DELIGHT

Many people think that the Venezuelan arepa is exclusively made from corn flour, because there is also the Andean arepa that are made with wheat flour.
The Andean wheat arepas are typical of the State of Merida, Venezuela. They also tend to prepare and enjoy themselves in the Andean states such as Trujillo and Mérida. Now its consumption extends to all Venezuela.
Although its ingredients and preparation are similar to pancakes, breads, waffles ... its texture is different.

Recipe:
Ingredients:
2 cups of wheat flour
2 tsp baking powder
4 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 egg (you can substitute vegetable shortening)
1/4 cup of oil or margarine
1 cup water or warm milk
preparation:
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl, then knead on a floured surface until the dough is smooth, then let stand half an hour Some people make a roll and then cut slices, I stretch the dough a little with a rolling pin and I give shape with a glass so that all are the same and more beautiful .. but the real Andean arepas are irregular (it's a matter of taste)
They are cooked over a budare or pan, they tend to inflate a little, when they are golden they are ready to enjoy
