ORGANIC Mixed Berry LEMONADE packed with PROBIOTIC Loveliness!!

in #food7 years ago (edited)

Well Summer is upon us and who doesn't love a long glass of refreshing lemonade on a warm Summers day? I know I do!! Well, here is a twist on the normally sugar, colorant and preservative filled lemonade drinks. This recipe will leave you refreshed and satisfied. Not to mention your body and gut will love you for it....

PLUS it's Organic, low sugar, sparkling (fizzy) and filled with tons of probiotics to boot....

Ingredients:

4 Organic Lemons Juiced

1 Cup Mashed Organic Mixed Berries

1/3 Cup Organic Sugar

5-6 Cups Filtered Water

1/2 Cup Whey

Whey Recipe

OK, so lets start with how to make the Whey. This is the magic ingredient that makes all the goodness happen. You see, Whey which comes from draining Organic yogurt overnight, feeds on the added sugar. This will give us the probiotics as well as the 'fizzyness' we all love so much. If you leave it long enough it will actually eat away all of the sugar leaving us with an almost sugar-free drink. This would obviously be less sweet and can be re-sweetened with stevia but that's up to your tastebuds and preference.

Take 2 Cups of Organic Yogurt (NOT GREEK) and place it in a cheese cloth to drain overnight. You will be left with about 1 cup of Whey. Be sure to save the leftover strained yogurt for later and your leftover Whey can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 weeks

Lemonade Recipe

Lets get all our ingredients together and get started!!

First, take your filtered water and sugar and stir the sugar in your glass jar until completely dissolved.

Now, lets cut out lemons carefully and squeeze the juice into a bowl.

Now, lets take our berries and mash them up nicely!!

OK, so all our ingredients are ready to go into our glass container to be stirred up and mixed together.

Take a rubber band and cheese cloth and place over the mouth of the jar so that the process can begin and the mixture can breathe. Leave for 3 days depending on how warm it is, this could take a little longer in cooler weather.

Remember the left over yogurt I said to save? Well, take some more berries and maybe a little honey and mix them in for a nice little snack after all your hard work!!! (Add a little water if dry)

After 3 days your drink is ready to enjoy!! Strain the berries and transfer to a decanter of your choice. I like to keep mine in an airtight bottle to keep in the fizz. You can add some stevia or sugar to sweeten if you like but again that up to you and your preference!!

ENJOY THIS LITTLE PIECE OF SUMMER MAGIC
