Eating in Melbourne: Fancy Hank's

Fancy Hank's is an American-style restaurant on Bourke Street in Melbourne's CBD serving mostly barbeque food. I had a chance to dine there last week with a new friend. The lunch hour was not busy so we had a quiet corner table with lots of sunshine streaming through the windows.

We decided to order their famous beef brisket, chicken wings, corn bread and beans.

Beef brisket
This slow cooked brisket had a salt and pepper rub, and came with red-eye gravy and some pickles. The meat was very tender and juicy. The gravy was well-paired with the brisket.

Corn bread with Jalapeno Spread
This bread was delicious. The slightly spicy spread elevated the taste of the bread and went well with the meats. The only criticism is the price. Over-priced in my opinion.

Chicken wings
BBQ, chipotle glaze & "F@#k blue cheese" ranch
The chicken wings had too much glaze on them so adding the sauce was too overpowering. I think they were a bit overcooked. The sauce itself was nice but they should have skipped the heavy glaze if they wanted us to use the sauce. Perhaps the sauce would have been more suited for nuggets.

Boston Style Beans
The beans were nice but there was too much sauce on top. Not very memorable so I would skip it if I came again.

Overall the service was good and some of the food is worth coming back for, like the brisket and corn bread. Since my friend paid, I was very happy with the experience :)
