Mmm, gyros

in #food6 years ago

I miss the warm summer days in Greece. When I look at this photo, I'm eating Greek gyros again.

Giros is fast food and is one of the most recognizable "brands" of Greece.

It is one of the favorite meals for Greeks and all those who love olive oil.

It is almost impossible to remember the summer days on the coast of one of the three seas in the southernmost Balkan country without remembering the delicious gyros.

Giros is originally made of pork, but as any fast food is adapted to those who consume it, you can also eat it with chicken, turkey or minced meat. You certainly know well-known pork and chicken, but there are other two written variants most often in the so-called. cult gyros restaurants. Just like the well-known chicken and pork, the gyros of ground or turkey meat are very tasty.

Giros meat is made by stacking the pieces of meat upright on a long dagger and then roasting it by spinning around its axis. Of course, the meat roasting heater is not all around the upright bar, but only on one side.

Giros meat is placed in the so-called pie along with fries, spread and salad. It is packed as a steak and is ready to conquer all gourmets.

Interestingly, a large number of Greek households have a mini device on which gyros are fried in the home version.

Giros is named just because it revolves around its axis. Namely, in Greek, a movement that goes nonstop in a circle is called a gyro (verb: γύρω, and from it the name gyros - ο γύρος) is derived. So in Serbian the name of our favorite fast food Greek would be "turn".

According to legend, gyros came to Greece from the city of Bursa, located in Asia Minor. It was brought to the southernmost Balkan country by Hellenic refugees in 1922. Namely, this Turkish town has a well-known gastronomic history for which both Turks and Greeks, Armenians and Jews are responsible, so it should not surprise us that a Greek brand was born there.
