Hello friends! A blessed and Happy Friday to all! Hope all you are doing good. As I said earlier in my previous post, I went shopping at the fish market. I took some shots of dried fish also. Though that place was very smelly for my daughter who was with me. I managed to take some. I thought I should write an article about dried fish, which is highly nutritious. Even more healthy than a fish. So, today I am here with an article about dry fish. It is also known as "Shutki" in Bangladesh.

Dried fish is also known as “shutki” is very popular food among Bangladeshi people. It fulfills 60% demand for animal protien of the people of Bangladesh. It is the type of cuisine which is affordable and nutritious also. That’s why its become common food of Bangladeshi people. That’s not all, stay with me to read more about dry fish. Let’s check more about Shutki.

The concept of preserving fish:

To make it preservable fishes are dried. By using the sun and air of nature. Water helps microorganisms to grow more. This microorganisms like yeasts, molds, bacteria need water to grow. By using evaporation method the fish is dried. So, this microorganism can grow. Evaporation is to remove water by air drying and sun drying. It is the ancient technique of food preservation. It is also cheap. Smoking and salting are also famous procedures to preserve fish. In this manner, fishes can be preserved for years after years.

Roles Dry fish plays in Bangladesh Economy:

In the growth of the economic sector of Bangladesh, fisheries sectors have an important role. Bangladesh is well known for its rivers and ponds. Most of the living of people of Bangladesh from this fishery sector.

Almost 3.65% of GDP(Gross Domestic Product) contributed by fishery product. In the year of 2014-2015, the total fish production was 36.84 million MT. Besides, aquaculture fish production of Bangladesh is the fifth highest in the world after China, India, Vietnam and Indonesia and capture fisheries production of Bangladesh is the sixteenth highest in the world. Nutritional factors of Dried Fish:

Dry fish is a good source of animal protein. Most of the Bangladeshi people suffer from malnutrition. Dry fish plays an important role in fulfilling the demand of protein among them. Besides it also provides calcium, iron, phosphorus. Moreover, foods that are fermented good source of peptides, amino acids. Dried fish also enriched in nutrition and functional properties more than normal fish.

In nutshell, there are lots of factors hindering the growth of fisheries sector. It eventually affects production down of dry fish. Among them pollution of rivers, overfishing, legal corruptions are most alarming. So Government should need to check this problems. Then ultimately we can gain much from this sector.
