3 Microwave Meals to Teach Your Kids
. . . so you can sit down more often, sleep later and experience more joy in life. Also so they can become more independent, self-reliant and increase their confidence.
As often as I am called a "supermom," the truth is my energy is limited and I employ a lot of life hacks to keep me sane. One of those is teaching my kids which dishes are microwave safe followed by how to make these three microwave meals:
1. Scrambled Eggs
Coolest thing about this dish is the eggs don't even have to be scrambled. All your kids need to do is crack two eggs into a microwave safe bowl (again, stirring optional) and press "90" and "Start" on the microwave. My five year old can scramble herself a breakfast. My nine and eleven year olds add 30-45 seconds and make themselves omelettes. Added bonus: the older two can spray their dishes with PAM so nothing sticks.
2. Quesadillas
You don't need butter. You don't need PAM. You just need cheese, tortillas and a microwave-safe plate. Kids can layer tortillas and cheese and microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute depending on how big their quesadilla is. We usually go for 45 seconds and use smaller, corn tortillas.
3. Nachos
Sprinkle cheese on tortilla chips and cook for 1 minute (60 seconds). Pro-tip: This a good way to use up stale chips. The microwave freshens them up.
Really, all your kids need to know are a few numbers, how to push buttons (I bet they're ace at that), and where you keep the food.
Genius, amiright?
You're welcome. ;)

Yes! Once my kids got old enough to use the microwave and toaster unsupervised, I tried to make sure they always had things they could throw together to feed themselves.
Oh man. Appliances are life!
I don't have kids but this is great information to teach my younger brother. Thank you very much!
Absolutely!
The added bonus of teaching your kids when they're young is they still think it's super cool to be independent. By the time they're adults they realize "it's a trap!"
Bahaha. True.
Perfect opportunity to teach your kids and give them a few responsibilities. Thanks four sharing. Cheers!
