Mandi A Middle Eastern Cuisine
So my cousin had come from his university for his holidays and we decided to try this new mandi place opened in the area it's called Ridan mandi house.
Mandi
Mandi is basically a Middle Eastern dish which comprises of whole chicken with its skin attached to it sort of like a smaller version of turkey. You roast the chicken until it's skin is crunchy and moist. It is served with rice although the spices are very plain in terms of the sub continent standard we use alota lot of different spices and garam masala in our food. The Middle Eastern cuisine is rather less complicated and simple in its spices. How do I know this much well although I'm from Pakistan I spent my initial years in Saudi Arabia until I was 10 so had a lot of this dish, it's actually called khapsa there. Long story short we reached the place and it was crowded and had to wait for 20 minutes to get a seat there. The menu had three types of mandi a traditional dish which is a mandi, a roasted chicken dish which was a little hard and barbecued called madbee, and another dish madfoon which I didn't enquire about.
The place was traditionally built with small room type spaces where you sit on the floor and eat. First off we ordered Yakhni soup, this soup comes from marinating meat in it like a broth. We squeezed lemons in it and drank the bowl, it was refreshing and very light almost increasing our hunger.
Then came the main course a four person Mandi what I did was ordered the madbee sauce which is used to roast the chicken and barnecue it. This sauce is a little strong but tastes amazinvamazing if you mix a little of it with the mandi rice. In the Arabian peninsula people eat from a big dish at the center with their hands and not serving the rice on smaller dishes. We kept the tradition and started digging in with our hands straight from the dish. The rice could be re-added so we did that once and about 20 minutes later the 4 of us finished it. At the end there were small pan which are sweets and mints wrapped in a smecial leaf which were just amazing they made the mouth taste sweet and refreshing.
After that it was dessert time and we ordered kunafa another Arabian dish. It has a creamy sauce at the top and light sprinkle crust at the bottom but this wasn't enough and we decided to drink strawberry shakes from another place down the street.
Oh what a day of pure chugging everything had a lot of fun tryinhtrying different food. In the end the summer bod goals are over but the stomach is satisfied with the quality food.
Oh, that food looks good! But especially the strawberry drink!
The drink is one of a kind in the city.
