This is the recipe for some delicious meatballs that you can prepare easily and it will not cost you much, but if you take advantage of them in a family reunion it would be great.

Some meatballs can be made with almost any meat or fish, you just have to take a few premises into account. The meatballs will come out much more tender if you use a fatty meat than a lean one.

Lean meats need less cooking, since having no fat they are very dry and hard. Nor do you have to mix it too much, only until all the ingredients are well distributed. I prefer to knead it with my hands, but you can also do it with a fork.

When it comes to cooking meatballs, we have two options. Either make them in the oven, or fry them in oil. When frying they stay juicier, but they are much more caloric. You can try to see which option you like the most.

With these amounts come about 28 meatballs.

Ingredients

For the meatballs:

1/2 cup of milk
1/2 cup of hard bread misses
1 large egg
1 teaspoon salt
A few turns of ground black pepper
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
A bunch of chopped fresh parsley
500 gr of minced beef, pork, turkey, chicken, or a mixture
1 chopped onion
1 garlic clove finely chopped
Flour (optional)
Olive oil (optional)
For the sauce:

1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
3 cloves of garlic, chopped
1 can of whole peeled tomatoes
1 bay leaf
1/4 teaspoon of salt
Fresh thyme, basil, oregano and other dried herbs
Grated parmesan cheese to decorate (optional)

Instructions

To make the meatballs. Mix the milk with the bread crumbs so that they soften. Put them in a bowl together with the beaten egg, salt, black pepper, Parmesan cheese and parsley. Add the meat, the clove of garlic and the chopped onion. Use your hands to knead all the ingredients and form a uniform dough.

Take a small piece of dough and form a small ball with the palms of your hands. Continue to make balls until the dough is finished.

Now you have two options: cook the meatballs in the oven for 20-25 minutes until they are cooked, or flour the meatballs and fry them in hot oil until golden brown.

To make the sauce. Sauté the onion and garlic in a pan with 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium high heat, until soft, about 5 to 7 minutes. Grind the tomatoes and add them to the pan, along with the bay leaf, the salt and the different aromatic herbs.

Add the meatballs to the sauce and let it cook over low heat for 20 minutes, until the sauce has reduced and thickened.

Remove the bay leaves and stems from any other aromatic herb. Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese grated on top and serve.
