Shorshe maach (A traditional Bengali delicacy)
I have had many kinds of fish preparations. But recently I came across this prep, which I could not stop eating. Well I guess one of the biggest benefit of dating someone from a different state, is that you now have an entire new cuisine to explore. And so do they. In fact, we have been cooking each other different dishes from our cuisine, since quite sometime now. But this was a hidden gem. On the left, you see shorche maach that she cooked, and on the right is the sad paneer prep that I prepared.
Shorshe maach, literally translates to mustard fish.
It is traditional recipe from Bengal, India. The image you see is of Rohu fish, shallow fried in mustard oil; and then served in a gravy made with paste of mustard seeds and some kala jeera (Black cumin seeds). I am not even going to try and tell you the recipe, because let's face it - I am not qualified to give tips on something so yummy. But, the internet is full of all permutations and combinations to prepare your own shorche maach.
