Window farms are vertical aquaponic gardens hanging in your window where you can grow plants if you don't have a garden or a balcony. You can start to build a device that makes it possible to gardening with only light , water and electricity! The concept was born in New York, With the idea that the world looks much better if everyone would grow at least some of their own food.

The materials with which you build the window farm, are therefore available to everyone and anyone can build; It is am inventive system of plastic bottles , bead chain , plastic tubes and an aquarium pump. It has the potential to change the world and to make child's play of growing food. It is fun to do and beautiful to look at!

I have a hard-on for this type of stuff. Follow me, ive followed you! :)

Do you have your own window garden?

It looks like it eats all the light coming into the room, so personal experience would be appreciated! Especially if the window is not really big, it can be an issue not only for the plants, but also for inhabitants - not talking about need of opening and maintenance of the windows - for example, we have windows being opened to interior which makes it unsustainable from the very start as it is in conflict with the arch. function of window.

The windowfarms.org project seems to be no longer "on-line".

But definitely, a great experiment.

It would be wonderful to prepare some know-how and make it easier to opt-in.

For example, showing how just replaceable pots and containers can make the window space green and edible, while keeping the architectonical functions of windows.

No need of aquaponics and electricity. If somebody will decide, be sure they will try it yourself. In the meantime, it would be nice to see an inspiration and, for example, tips on what we can actually grow here.

For example sprouts are space effective and full of nutrients.

Hi @thebiggestidea, Thanks for taking the time )

I am living in a shared appartment right now and I dont have a window garden, but I used to have several Nonsai plants and balcony flowers.

I will try to expand the topic if the initistive kicks in. I plan to recycle plastic water bottles and a mini shurflo solar pump to build one. Electricity is important just for the mini pump and extra lights; but not necessary.

I have noticed the webste is down. But was up a few months ago.

There are proven ways to plant Tomatoes, Strawberries & lettuce.

Wonderful! We are SOLD! :-) Would you like to get a video for your initiative? But we will need some CC0 media for it.. or photos you have license for. Cheers!

Yes this is a really great way to use the sun at your windows, great article!
