Indian Recipe - Bengal Hotchpotch (Bangla Khuchuri)

The last weekend I tried this following dish. It's a very favourite dish in West Bengal, India. So, lets try this such a delicious recipe --

Ingredients: (for 4-5 people)

Basmati/Gobindobhog Rice - 200 gm.

Moong/Masoor/Arhar Dal - 200 gm.

Cumin powder - 2 tea spoon

Red chilli powder - 1 tea spoon

Turmeric Powder - 1 tea spoon

Ginger paste - 1/2 tea spoon

Cumins (integrate)- 1 tea spoon

Green Chili (chopped) - 4-5 pieces

Chopped onion - 3 large size

Garam Masala Powder - 1 1/2 tea spoon

Potato (chopped) - 3 large size

Tomato (chopped) - 2 medium size

Cauliflower (chopped) - 1/2

Peas - 100 gm.

Brinjal (chopped) - 1 large size

Carrot (chopped) - 2 medium size

Oil - 150 ml.

Sugar - 1 tea spoon

Salt - to taste

How to cook :

  1. Pour oil to the pan. And warm it for at least 2 minutes.
  2. Wash dal properly and then add it to the pan.
  3. Fry the dal for at least 3 minutes. Then remove them from pan.
  4. Wash rice properly.
  5. Pour again oil to the pan, add rice, stir gently for at least 5 minutes. Then remove them from pan.
  6. Last time pour oil to the pan, add cumins (integrated) to the oil & warm it for 2 minutes.
  7. Then add chopped potatoes, tomatoes, peas, brinjals, cauliflowers & carrots.
  8. Then add cumin powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, ginger paste, chopped green chillies & chopped onions. And mix well.
  9. Fry the mixture for at least 3 minutes.
  10. Add Rice & Dal to the mixture.
  11. Fry the mixture, stir it gently frequently for another 2 minutes.
  12. Pour water (250 ml.) to the mixture.
  13. Add salt & garam masala powder.
  14. Put a cover & cook for at least 20-25 minutes (until rice & dal cooked properly).
  15. Your favourite delicious Bengal Hotchpotch is now ready. Serve it hot with omelets.
