Apparently Durian Contains Cholesterol That's Just Myth
Many Indonesians are afraid to consume durian because they think that this thorny fruit contains cholesterol.
However, it was denied by Dr. Diana Suganda SpGK, nutrition specialist from Pondok Indah Hospital.
Diana explained that the nutrient content in 100 grams of durian meat is energy of 147 calories, 5.33 grams of fat, 1.47 grams of protein, 27 grams of carbohydrates, and cholesterol 0 milligrams.
"(So) not true, fruits do not contain cholesterol," he said.
In addition to being a good source of carbohydrates, fats, fiber, and protein; Diana also said that durian is a nutrient-rich fruit and has abundant vitamin content, namely vitamin C, potassium, amino acid tryptophan, folic acid, pantonetat acid, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin and B6.
In fact, about 100 grams of durian can meet 32 percent of the daily vitamin C requirement of an adult.
Durians also contain antioxidant compounds, such as caffeine, anthocyanin, and quercetin; and essential minerals, such as iron, calcium, magnesium, sodium, zinc, and phosphorus.
However, due to the high caloric content, Diana advises the Indonesian people to limit the amount of durian consumed.
The recommended serving size by this nutrition specialist is 100 grams of durian meat or about two small round durian fields for people who do not have health problems.
However, watch out for very large monthong durian shapes, one sphere alone can be 200-300 grams by yourself. Please count the calories.
Meanwhile, people who are trying to lose weight and people with gastritis should think twice if you want to consume durian.
In the stomach, durian will experience fermentation and produce high alcohol. Patients with gastritis or ulcers should not consume them in large quantities.
