Our food situation in the dry season.

The dry season normally come with total dryness which affects food crops, humans as well as animals. However, food usually face severe shrinking and dryness, thus loosing its nutritive value and taste. As such these food could either be preserved in refrigerators or preserved traditionally by sprinkling water on them and placing on a shelve outside at night.

The foods that mostly suffer such during this period are mostly vegetables such as cabbage, spinach, broccoli, onions, lettuces, asparagus, turnips, leeks, sweet potato, potato etc.
This is because they are perishables and have high water content. This makes them more susceptible to rotting and requires attention.
Furthermore, if these foods are not well preserved they gradually shrinks by the outer leaves drying off thus making them loose both their nutritive value and taste.
By preserving by means of the refrigerator, these foods are carefully washed, drained and put in different baskets and put in the refrigerator. This can be there depending on usage and also the availability of electricity. This modern method of food preservation helps in keeping them in a freshly state and it is widely been used.

However, another method still in use also especially people in rural areas or those who still lack access to electricity do practice is traditional method which involves washing or soaking in water at night and outside, and have them carefully placed on shelves or roof tops. They are thus recollected in the early hours of the morning to avoid the scotch of the sun on them.

This also help in keeping the food in its freshly state till when it is used. This disadvantage with this method is that with the constant placing and removing, the foods will get bruises which may aid in rotting. Well preserved foods are equally healthy for the body as we need to stay healthy and strong, as such only well preserved and good food can keep us in that state.
As such it is always advisable not to keep these foods for longer periods using this traditional method so as to avoid food looses, thus we should always ensure we make proper arrangements for preservation during this period.
