The Delicious Banga Soup Taste
Banga soup is one of the most common and yummy delicacy among the uhrobho and its also loved and enjoyed by People from within and outside my country Nigeria. Banga soup is best eaten with Starch thou some people prefer it with Eba or Fufu, i love eating it with starch ....the taste of Banga Soup most especially with cat fish mixed with perewinkle and tiko cannot be overemphasized if you are an Uhrobho or from within Delta Nigeria you would understand what am talking about.
I know and believe those steemians who gets me are salivating already and to those who would love to try it out, here are some receipes and steps to guide you........
Recipes;
1 big Cat Fish
meat
chicken(any of your prefered choice)
Fresh Palm Fruits (Banga 3-4 cups)
Red scotch bonnet pepper “Ata rodo” 6)
Ataiko (1 tbsp)
Fresh prawn [oporo](one cup)
Fresh Palm Fruits (Banga 3-4 cups
Red scotch bonnet pepper “Ata rodo” 5
Ataiko (1 tbsp)
Cryfish haif cup
Irugege (1 teaspoon)
Oburunbebe Stick (Banga stick) (1)
Dried Beletientien leaves quarter cup)
Thinly sliced bitter leaves quarter cup)
1-2 cubes of knorr
Periwinkles (1)
Salt to taste.
Method.......
Firstly you should use crushed dried beletientien leaves, or thinly sliced bitter leaves, grind the spices. Add them all together (ataiko, Irugege and a cup of crayfish), blend to powder. Blend the pepper also. Wash your cat fish with warm water, a cube of maggi and a pinch of salt,Set aside.
Boil the palm fruit for 20-30 minutes...
Pound with a mortar and pestle, transfer into a bowl, add water and extract the juice.
You will need about 5-7 cups of that palm fruit juice should be enough cause it has to be thick.
Note; while washing banga use a sieve to strain the extract into your cooking pot
Allow it to boil for 10- 15 minutes with the pot half-covered.
Then add the cat fish, ground (crayfish, ataiko plus irugege), oburunbebe stick, precooked meat, ground pepper and salt to taste. Cover and allow another 10 minutes then add the crushed dried beletientien leaves or thinly sliced bitter leaves, meat, chicken,periwinkles and one cube of maggi or knorr. Stir, cover and allow to simmer for 4 minutes. This is how its done. Your soup is ready serve with starch,eba or fufu
