Emirates Lounge - Gatwick

in #food8 years ago

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I have been sunning myself in the Maldives and I have had to come in because it is so hot! I usually love the sun and mostly my skin can take it, but the last two days I have really started to burn. I started off on factor 30 and then moved down to 20. I have had to go back to factor 30 because I am getting so red and sore! I have decided to retreat to my water villa and write about the meals I had in the Emirates lounge in Gatwick whilst I let my body cool down in the air-con.

Emirates Lounge - Gatwick

On first glance the lounge looks quite posh and peaceful. There are hardly any people in it. I made my way to the food section and had a good look round. There were lots of amazing dishes on offer, such as curries, rice and pies. I decided to go for something quite light as I knew there was going to be lots of food on the flight and I didn’t want to look 3 months pregnant before I get to my destination.

Beetroot Carpaccio with Feta

This had some thinly sliced beetroot, gem lettuce, wedges of feta and topped with pea shoots. It was really nice and fresh. I have been dying for feta over the past few weeks, so I was really glad it was on offer. The cheese was so creamy and salty. It was quite crumbly too. It was very nice with the sweetness of the beetroot. The pea shoots added a nice flavour and it was nice to have the crunch of the gem lettuce. Great so see a decent couple of slabs of cheese here!

Smoked Salmon Blini with Capers and Cream Cheese

This dish really caught my eye. I love the tower of the smoked salmon. The blinis were soft and there was a nice amount of capers on the plate. I thought the piped cream cheese looked a little small in comparison to the amount of smoked salmon. The fish was tasty and everything tasted great together. I would have preferred the blinis to have been made up, rather than having to make them up yourself. It did get a little messy and the last thing I want are fish fingers.

White and Milk Chocolate Mousse with Pistachio

I had to have some sort of dessert. There was quite a lot to choose from. This one looked the best portion wise. The white mousse was at the bottom and the milk chocolate on top. There were segments of orange in-between the two mousses. That was quite unexpected as there was nothing on the description to say there was fruit in it. I didn’t mind though as chocolate and orange is a classic combo. The mousse was really nice and fluffy with lots if air bubbles. Both mousses tasted exactly as described. The pistachio was nice on top to give the dessert some extra texture. This dessert was delicious. It was a bit rich and I could imagine it being quite sickly if you ate too much. So I can see why it came in a small portion.

Everything I had from the lounge was nice. Everything I didn’t have smelled so good. If I knew I wasn’t going to have a meal on the flight, I definitely would have made the most of it. Worth going to the lounge if you ever get the chance. Just make sure you haven’t eaten for a week, because I guarantee you will want to eat everything in sight. Very nice Emirates!

Everything looks fabulous @platinum-blue - but it also looks like your camera lens has a little bit of the SPF30 on it... hehehe ;)
