Halloween Food Recap
Who ever said Halloween was only about candy?
Around here, I like to do a little something extra for the kidlets on special holidays, to really get them into the spirit of things. And, while I am a big fan of all the sugary stuff, I think having some other festive options is pretty fun as well. (Plus, then the kids can get excited about eating something other than pure sugar.) Of course, plenty of the goodies I've made over the years have had their fair share of the sweet stuff as well! I mean, really... what's Halloween without it? ;)
First, the obligatory treats!
Franken-crispy Squares!
I found this idea somewhere on the interwebs, and couldn't resist trying it out. You just make your usual rice crispy squares, and add a little green coloring to the melted marshmallows, then use some melted chocolate for hair, and to adhere chocolate chips for the eyes/neck bolts. I used a toothpick dipped in black gel food coloring to get the pupils and mouths.

Brain Hemorrhage Cupcakes!
I baked vanilla cupcakes in some festive wrappers, then used a bit of red food coloring in my salted caramel sauce to flavor/color the frosting. (Notice the little "blood" streaks?)

And for the blood clot filling! HAHA! So gross and so good at the same time.

Cupcake Ghosties!
Wee man wanted to bake with me, and asked to make "ghost cupcakes". You can probably tell I had a 2-year-old kitchen assistant, but he had a blast, and they turned out pretty cute.

Ghost Cake
I made this one at the same time as I made this birthday cake for my friend's daughter. The skull pan always makes extra cake that needs to be trimmed away, for the 2 pieces to fit together properly. This leaves behind a nice small cake for us to snack on later! BONUS! This was thrown together pretty quickly, since my main concern was the birthday cake, but I wanted to have a bit of fun with it just the same. So, I carved the bottom a smidge, and made this little pacman "vulnerable ghost".

And now, some other spooky food ideas!
Jack O'Lantern Pump-cakes
Around here I like the festivities to begin first thing, to get the kids pumped about what lay ahead. A festive breakfast is the perfect way to do that! These pumpkin pancakes would be a perfect way to get some produce into those little tummies before all the sugar-laden treats they're sure to encounter for the rest of the day week. Drop the batter into 2 side-by-side spoonfuls, and allow them to run together, then drop in some chocolate chips in the shape of a face, and there you have your tasty little Jack O'Lanterns!

Jack O'Lantern Sandwich, Boo-nanas, and False Teeth
And, of course, if you start the day with a Halloween-themed breakfast, those kidlets aren't going to let you try to get away with some regular old lunch! A little bit of magic with a knife, a few well-placed chocolate chips, peanut butter, and marshmallows, and you've got a festive lunch fit for any little goblin!

I've made some fun themed dinners as well, but apparently neglected to grab any pictures of them! I'll be sure to keep the camera handy this year, though! :)
So, if you've never really thought about making any sort of "themed" food, maybe something here will inspire you to give it a shot this year!

Awesome. Btw, that food looks freaking delicious, I would love me some :)))
OMGOSH! The brainy cupcakes are so gross looking that @guthrie would absolutely love them! Very creative decorating skills ya got there. :)
LOL! I got a few comments from friends about how those cupcakes made them want to gag. Which is kind of perfect for Halloween, I think. ;)
Thanks!
You're doing it right! Plus, you've got some cute monsters to balance out the creepy.

These are very creative. My favourite is the brain haemorrhage cupcakes with the blood. So good. So gross. 😁
Thanks! HAHA I know... they're kinda gruesome. Perfect for Halloween though. ;)
Yummy, they look great! :)
Thanks! :)
