Yep certainly, the problem is that big Pharma have a monopoly on which treatments reach market due to the costs of research and development. And since these companies require intellectual property rights in order to ensure return of investment for developing a treatment, herbs and spices with provable historic use do not make appealing targets for research. If this barrier did not exist we would probably know much more about the benefits of many natural treatments.
