Snacking in France

in #food7 years ago (edited)

Hey Steemians and all you foodies out there! In today’s post, we’re snacking our way through a country that we hold near and dear to our hearts. France! Today, we’re touching on the must have snacks that make France a culinary mecca, and the hungry traveler’s delight. We hope you like!Moules frites.jpg

I’m truly stretching the realm of snack food here. Moules Frites in most people’s eyes would likely be considered a full lunch course or even a light dinner. Well, when you’re snacking in France, you have to up to the challenge of making the rounds. We found this perfect snack for two on the west coast in the coastal village of Arcachon. Mussels and fries are both fun to eat and so flavorful that you will have to refrain yourselves from drinking the delicious broth that the mussels are cooked in! Don’t worry though, it comes with bread for dipping as well to alleviate such culinary conundrums.

Stop by any boulangerie and be prepared for a plethora of bread choices!
The darker more robust northern bread, soft sandwich loaves, and rustic country loaves that will make you wish you were sitting by a fire with a rich stew to soak it all up are waiting for you in pretty much any French town. We found this dilemma of bread in western Bordeaux. Decisions...decisions…

A snack in France isn’t a snack unless of course you make a pit stop at the local boucherie. Custom cured and dried local meats sitting alongside beautiful Italian Prosciutto di Parma imports are beckoning. The only wrong choice in a butcher shop such as this one in Bordeaux is to not stop and take a taste. Good luck not leaving without a little bit of everything in tow!

French Cheese Platter-2.jpg
There is no wrong answer as to what you put on a cheese plate, only that there be cheese on it. It helps to be in France where you will find what you are looking for and even a few surprises. This no nonsense cheese plate has a crowd pleasing swiss, a big blue cheese, and an acrid camembert that can challenge even the most seasoned cheese aficionados. We found this plate of cheese bliss in Versailles.

Meat and cheese? Yes Please!

Crepes A Go Go.jpg

On the go? Not a problem while snacking in France. As the sign reads from my favorite crepe spot in Aix-en-Provence, they are ready to send you off with a delicious crepe in a hurry.

We decided to take a bite out of the local mushroom, egg, and cheese crepe. Yum!

Snacking in France is more than an instantly gratifying moment of indulgent bliss. It’s a time to share one of the most important things in life that lets face it, makes life worth living. Breaking bread with a new friend, slicing a piece of salami for your brother, or pouring that last drop of wine in the bottle for the man or woman you love are among those moments that make snacking together great. And, for us, snacking in France is always great.
