Foods to ABSOLUTELY AVOID to your Pets

For most of us, we love our pets just like they are part of our internal family. So, why would you not make them treats and special goodies?

I would like to offer some information about foods to avoid, as not all dogs have a strong constitution. Most of the items listed here, regardless of the amount, can be toxic to dogs. Please do not give these foods to your pet.

Here is a list of the most common Do NOT give to dogs food:

1. Onions / onion powder
2. Chocolate – any kind or type
3. Macadamia nuts
4. Walnuts
5. Raisins
6. Grapes
7. Avocados
8. Mushrooms

Along with foods your dog should absolutely avoid, there are some foods you should minimize giving to your pets. These are not necessarily toxic or dangerous in small quantities, but if portion control is not carefully monitored they can be harmful to your pet. Please check with you veterinarian for your pets specific needs.

1. Salt
2. Sugars
3. Dairy
4. Baby Foods with additives/sugars
5. Liver (in high volume)
6. Potato / Tomato – green parts
7. Garlic – part of the onion family
8. Wheat allergies

As dogs have few taste buds than humans, the majority of their taste is derived from their nose; their sense of smell. Therefore, ingredients like salt and sugar are unnecessary and not really important to a dog. Since these ingredients can have ill side effects for your dog (i.e. like blood pressure issues (yes, dogs can have high blood pressure), overweight and diabetes) you need to be careful when including them in their diet.

You should minimize these foods in your pet’s daily intake for their overall health and quality of life.
