Brazil #2: Caipirinha | A national cocktail.
Heeeyho community. Sharing one more post about Brazil. Now it's time for a cocktail.
Summer is here, hot temperatures, vacations, new year. For many brazilians that means going to the beach and enjoying themselves.
I find it funny that many of my foreign friends are crazy about Caipirinha, our national cocktail. Here in Brazil it's very common to share Caipirinha at parties, barbecues, at the beach or appreciate at home. I'm not a drinking person anymore, but I have to admite that Caipirinha is indeed quite good, that's why I'm sharing.
Now...What is Caipirinha?
It's a simple drink made in Brazil. There are four ingredients: Cachaça, ice, lime and sugar.
Ok, great. But what is Cachaça?
It's Brazil's national spirit. It was first consume in the 1600s by slaves. It's a very strong drink destilled from sugarcane juice.
What is the recipe?
It's very simple to prepare and within a couple of minutes you'll be able to prepare Brazil's most famous drink.
Ingredients
- 1 Lime
- 2 Teaspoons of sugar
- Cachaça
- Ice
How to Prepare
- Cut the lime tips and into 4 parts
- Take the lime parts and make a V to cut out the central part (white part), this prevents bitter taste.
- In a glass add lime and sugar
- Use a muddler to press the lime against the glass.
- Add ice
- Pour cachaça over everything
- Stir
- This will serve you one glass.
Most used cachaça: Velho Barreiro Gold
Alternatives to cachaça: At some places buying Cachaça may be a little tricky since it's a brazilian drink, for lack of cachaça caipirinha can be made with a good Vodka.
Muddler: Thats a fancy tool bartenders use to 'crush' fruits. In Brazil we use anything in hand for that matter.
Hope you guys enjoyed, and if you prepare this cocktail leave a comment about how it was. Cheers !
