Chinese Dish #1: Braised Pork Balls in Soy Sauce

Today I'd like to introduce a famous Chinese food called Braised Pork Balls in Soy Sauce. 

In China people used to call large pork meatballs lion's head(shi zi tou), so its past name is very interesting, Red Burned Lion's Head! To tell the truth, Braised Pork Balls in Soy Sauce is one of the most famous holiday recipes in China, and it’s known as Four-Joy Meatballs in some places.

The ingredients are very common: minced pork, egg, corn starch, onion and ginger. Usually we also add some green vegetables to balance the taste. The meatballs are very juicy and flavorful, and eating with rice is also addictive!

Here are some tips:

  • Mix water into the meat to make a very tender patty.
  • Add plenty of corn starch.
  • Add some green vegetables such as youcai or Shanghai greens.
