Australia is finally catching up with the rest of the world, and soon we here in oz will be able to buy and consume Hemp seeds legally! Hemp as a food has been given the green light by the Australian government, and thats good new all round.

This is my mate Alex, he owns and runs The hemp store Woy Woy.
He's the one that got me eating the stuff!

So back to breaking the law...right now if you purchase hemp seeds, flour or protein you will find a disclaimer on the packet stating it is a product for external use or pet food?!? So if you accidentally spilt some on your muesli, you are breaking the law! What the hell Australia? Lucky times are changing...

These are whole and hulled Hemp Seeds. I use these to make mylk, use half a cup of hulled seed and 4 cups of water with a pinch of salt then blend. No need to strain or soak them before hand.
These little things could be the most nutritional seed in the world! A great source of protein with a full amino acid profile and have a huge amounts of Omega-3 and Omega-6 in the perfect ration for optimal absorption. They also have a good amount of Omega-9.

Hemp as a food is not the only exciting news for Australia. Industrial hemp could be a huge crop for Aussie farmers. Hemp is an extremely fast growing crop, producing more fibre yield per acre than any other source. Hemp can produce 250% more fibre than cotton and 600% more fibre than flax using the same amount of land. The amount of land needed for obtaining equal yield of fibre place hemp at an advantage over other fibres.

And the variety of products, including health foods, organic body care, clothing, construction materials, biofuels, plastic composites and more! According to one source, more than 50,000 products can be made from hemp. Thats amazing!

I switched over from whey to plant based supplement a while ago now. Hemp has been my favourite by far, goes down much smoother than pea protien...

And please don't call it a superfood! Think of it as a whole food. The phrase superfood is a load of marketing BS :)

I laugh everytime I use hemp seeds on my muesli. I've never felt so bad ass eating breakfast haha! Australia has a lot of catching up to do unfortunately.

Hi @mikepedro, I haven't eaten it before but I have worn it! It still amazes me how behind th times Australia is in terms of hemp and medicinal marijuana. Those scare campaigns over the years have really had some impact on he Australian market.

Hello, @scooter77, Been eating the stuff for a couple years now and highly recommend it. I have got some clothes and a back pack made of hemp and there all awesome! Backpack is over 3 years old and still going...
Its shocking how far behind we are!! They finally made a move on hemp, which is a start. The scare campaigns defiantly worked! Luckily the stigma is changing fast, People are waking up to the bullshit the benifits are evident from all the positive stories coming out.
Will be an interesting one to watch. I hope the news of all the tax money they could be making helps change the regulators minds.
