HOMEGROWN FOOD - Cherry Tomato Harvest - Yum!!!

in #food7 years ago (edited)

These Cherry Tomatoes were grown from seeds, Just got a packet of seed and threw them into a bed in direct sunlight, prepared with some compost and fertiliser mixed, also took some really nice ones I bought and used my thumb to just lightly squeezed them into the top of the soil until they popped, and then covered them lightly with soil, watered regularly, they grew in roughly 4-6 weeks.

The bounty harvest astounded me, guess I will be having a bit more salad with these gorgeous Tomatoes thrown in. Or could really just eat them as you would a bunch of grapes - They are so sweet.

They are sweet and succulent, great for any salad, or just eat them up as fruit. Totally delicious.

Have way too much to pick all at once, will have to send some over to the neighbours, lol

Some Cherry Tom History
A cherry tomato is a rounded, small fruited tomato thought to be an intermediate genetic admixture between wild currant-type tomatoes and domesticated garden tomatoes. Cherry tomatoes range in size from a thumbtip up to the size of a golf ball, and can range from being spherical to slightly oblong in shape.

Although usually red, other varieties such as yellow, green, and black also exist. The more oblong ones often share characteristics with plum tomatoes, and are known as grape tomatoes. The berry tomato is regarded as a botanical variety of the cultivated berry, Solanum lycopersicum var. cerasiforme.

Cherry tomatoes are believed to go as far back as Aztec Mexico in at least the 15th century CE. The first tomatoes cultivated in Europe in the 16th century, were yellow cherry tomatoes. Cherry tomatoes have been popular in the United States since at least 1919. Recipes using cherry tomatoes can be found in articles dating back to 1967.

You can really tell the difference between fruit and veg made with love and those sold in supermarkets. Look very vibrant, enjoy!

Toast (wholemeal) with onion, melted cheese & cherry tomato.
I love having that for breakfast.
I did grow a few on the balcony at one time.
Tomato's need a lot of sun, this can be a problem in some cases.
The best one's I tasted were from Southern Italy.

Enjoy your harvest.
Thanks for posting this.
