What is an Apple?

Apple is a fruit. It is usually rounded red, yellow or green edible pome fruit of a cultivated tree. It belongs to rose family 'Rutaceae'. It is a fleshy fruit having seed chambers and an outer fleshy part. Apples are some of the most popular and delicious fruits. It is one of the most widely cultivated tree fruits.
An apple contains a list of antioxidents and essential nutrients that are required from good health. The antioxidents in apples may help to reduce the risk of devoloping cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

Nutritional Value of Apple

Apple is praised as a mirracle food.It is one of the top 10 healthy foods. Apples deserve to be called as nutritional power house. it contains 52 kcal/100 g. "An Apple a day keeps the doctor away" is an old welsh proverb that most of us are fimilar with.

Carbohydrates = 13.81g , Fat = 0.17g
Protein = 0.26g , Water = 85.56g
Vitamins = 4.975mg , Calcium = 6mg
Magnesium = 5mg , Phosphorus = 11gm
Potasium = 107mg , Iron = 0.12mg

Parts of an Apple

An apple has many parts which are explained below:

1. Stalk:-
   Stalk is the part of the apple fruit which is attached to the stem.
2. Endocarp or Core:-
   The central part of the apple which contains the seeds or pips is called the endocarp or core of apple.
3. Exocarp:-
   Exocarp is the plant tissue that covers the fruits. It is also called the skin of apple.
4. Seed or pip:-
   The part of the apple that is used to reproduce the species is called the seed or pip.
5. Edible part:-
   The part that can be eaten is called the edible part of the apple.
6. Mesocarp or pulp:-
   Part of apple between the skin and core of apple is called the Mesocarp or pulp of apple.
7. Stamens:-
   The male organ of the apple that remains on the apple is called stamens.
8. Calyx:-
   Calyx is the set of sepals of apple that remains on the apple.
