Balanced breakfast: stop the received ideas!

Are you told everything and its opposite about the balanced breakfast? The first meal of the day arouses the passions, and with reason: well chosen, it is divine, bad choice, it is unhealthy. To simplify the morning menu, Priméal takes stock of the ideas received from breakfast!

Breakfast is essential to the body

Yes ... for children at least . A growing body is in dire need of fuel. Otherwise, children struggle to concentrate and move well before the time of the ring. For adults, however, studies follow each other and contradict each other. Some say a balanced breakfast will prevent diabetes, high blood pressure and heart attack while stabilizing weight. According to others, not having breakfast makes no difference! Only consensus, the meal must be healthy to do good, and meet a need rather than being forced. In other words, better to stagger than to eat without hunger or envy.

Fruit juices are part of a healthy breakfast

False ... in an overwhelming majority of cases. Commercial fruit juices are usually too sweet, sometimes even low in fruit and low in vitamins. The result is a spike in blood sugar, whose weak effects evaporate as soon as they arrive at the office ... announcing barb and cravings in the middle of the morning. Do you like your morning juice? For a balanced breakfast, squeeze citrus fruits, which are less rich in fructose but full of vitamins. And just a normal size glass!

Coffee helps to wake up

True, since it's an exciting one. No question of sipping it on an empty stomach, however, on pain of attacking a badly awakened stomach! Nor, incidentally, to consider it a miracle cure. The effects of caffeine disappear in a few hours, and the temptation is often great to chain the cups to keep your eyes open. Bad news, an excess of caffeine only hides the symptoms! An overdose can even cause sleep disorders, stomach or heart, disrupt digestion and aggravate stress. Coffee, yes, but in moderation for a balanced breakfast.

Tea is better than coffee

Not really. While black tea is generally less concentrated than coffee, it still contains theine, a stimulant similar to caffeine. However, it is possible to lighten its content by opting for green tea, champion of balanced breakfast. Or by choosing red tea that only has the name, since the famous Rooibos without theine is actually an infusion and not a tea!

Bread is the basis of a balanced breakfast

False! Slow sugar intake is actually essential to provide energy all morning, but may come from other foods than bread. You will find in all cereal products, patties with rusks, porridge rice with milk. In any case, avoid white bread, which is more industrial ... again too rich in refined sugars and low in fiber or minerals. Choose organic, whole grain or even homemade bread.

Dairy is mandatory for a healthy breakfast

False! Water, eggs, almonds, oranges, kale, spinach, white beans, seaweed or tofu are rich in calcium. A vitamin smoothie or enriched water can therefore be enough to compensate for these intakes ... even though the lactose present in the milk is difficult to digest. Do you like dairy products? Put a portion on the menu. As for vegans, intolerant or simply non-amateurs, no need to force you!

Breakfast cereals are bad for your health

Not all. The problem comes from the cereals of the supermarket, especially puffed, often too sweet and very rich in pesticides. For a balanced breakfast, follow a few simple principles: choose organic cereals, little or not sweet, then vary! By changing cereal and recipe, you will vary the inputs. Good news, there is a wide range of varieties, mixtures, tastes and shapes. As for a no-fault, leave the cereals to children and choose a muesli ...
