Tomatoes are a type of vegetable that is available in the market throughout the year. There has been a lot of tomato production in Bangladesh this season. Tomato is available inexpensive due to higher yield than demand. Even a kg of tomatoes were sold at some places in the country. However, in the case of nutrition, tomato is one of the best in terms of the cost of nutrients.

Tomato's scientific name is Solanum lycopersicum. Although tomato is a winter vegetable crop, some of its varieties can be cultivated in summer and rainy season.

Tomatoes contain plenty of lycopene, so that the vegetables are bright red and this element protects us from sun's ultraviolet rays. Lycopen helps in the protection of human body and increases immunity. This element protects from lungs, stomach and prostate cancer. Studies have shown that Lycopene protects from pancreas, colon, throat, mouth, chest and neck problems. Lycopene reduces blood cholesterol LDL and blood pressure in the human body.

Tomatoes have protein, calcium and plenty of vitamin A and Vitamin 'C'. Tomatoes contain flavonoid, a type of antioxidant that keeps the heart healthy.

Apart from this tomato has elements called lutein and giacassanthine that protect the human eye from the blue light emitted from digital devices like smartphones and computers. These components prevent eye tiredness and headaches from it. Some studies have shown that eye problems can cause blindness.

Studies have shown that tomatoes may be beneficial for asthmatics. Lycopene, Lutin, and Giacenothin fight other antioxidants with the harmful substances of tobacco smoke. Scientists are trying to know more about this.

Keeping tomato more than daily food reduces the risk of stroke. Studies show that tomato reduces inflammation, increases disease resistance, reduces bad cholesterol and prevents bleeding. Above all, tomatoes help prevent stroke.
