HOW I MAKE MY YOGURT //

in #food7 years ago (edited)

Been making my own yogurt for some time now. When my guts got interrupted some years ago after contacting intestinal parasites. Back then doctors had no advice how to help improve the good bacteria in your gut, after killing them off with full spectrum antibiotics.

Plain yogurt is not the solution to replace the good bacteria, but helps in balancing things out. Good Probiotics is what you need to help replace the ones that were lost. I tried so many different brands, that never totally worked. I now am getting results with "Align." Just one small pill before dinner everyday.

The Donvier yogurt maker is a simple device that keeps the cultured milk at just the right temperature set for the desired time.

You start by filling a pot with the amount of milk to fill your 8 yogurt cups.

Heat it on a slow flame and check with marked thermometer to bring it up to a temperature just before boiling. It is OK if it comes to a boil, but might make a mess by boiling all over the stove. The point of heating the milk is to kill any bacteria in it.

Now the milk must be allowed to cool back down to 110 degrees before adding the yogurt culture.

I speed up the cooling by filling the sink with cold water, then placing in the pot. Checking it with the thermometer that comes with the yogurt maker.

Then pour in the yogurt starter packet.

Stir with a whisk and it's ready to pour into the 8 cups.

Cover all the cups, place them in yogurt maker with its plastic cover and set the timer to your desired time. The longer it goes the tarter it will get. I run it for 14 hours and let it sit for another 8 hrs. The cultures will stay active until you put the cups in the refrigerator.

It's pretty simple, just have to go step by step. A tip for those with digestive problems .... Bad bacteria love Sugar, so only eat plain yogurt.

This is great! I used to make yogurt as well! but I didn't have yogurt maker. It was hard to keep the milk at just the right temperature.
Mmmmm... I should start making yogurt again :)

Cool, good way to get calcium too.

That does look like an easy process. I'm going to have to check into "Align". I have 'acid reflux' that started after they wiped me out with antibiotics.

I'm now forced to take an acid reducer every day. I've suspected it might be an imbalance since it started after the antibiotics. I was in the hospital and they wiped my system with strong ones. I had all kinds of problems for months afterwards.

The worse part is, I know I didn't have to be hospitalized and put through that but that is a story all in itself. lol

Diet is the most important thing to maintain and improve good health. Green vegetables, organic and little sugar. I eat romaine lettuce as much as I can, other lettuce doesn't cut it. Magnesium and Vit D lacking in American diet.

Seems white coats and their cohorts don't
want to heal, no $ in that. Let alone most foods
are now nutrient less and adulterated.

This comes at a time I and others could sure
use this information! Thank you! Will look for
this machine and culture stuff.
Any yogurt in the stores we've seen is usually
past the date and to many added things.
Infact lookout, many other items past date
big time lately.

Resteeming.

Thanks @shasta This post only got 17 cents. so far. People rather see a cat photo instead.

Well dang should of added some cats eating some yogurt lol
ReTake 🐱 hehe I gave it all I could, really low.

Darn, why didn't I think of that. lol Thanks for re-steem

Thanks for your detailed explanations.
Besides balancing things out, yogurt is a must for senior age due to the calcium contained in the milk.

Helps when you have trouble digesting milk. Thanks @justgeorge

Interesting! Thanks for the detailed post @manorvillemike

Have you ever heard of Kefir?
It's rich in nutrients and probiotics, very good for digestion and gut health. They are also easy to maintain.

Yes I tried it and didn't like it. Made sauerkraut though. Thanks @mrprofessor

Yeah, the plain kefir taste is horrible! I've once tried it plain and imediately regreted hahaha

I won't touch the yogurt in the store and at least you know what is in yours. Where on earth did you get intestinal parasites? The cats? I know someone who had the same thing and was so sick and lost a lot of weight. No fun.
