Eating out as an experience

I feel like here in the states we have built a culture that dining out has to be quick and cheap. When I was a waitress, people would get frustrated if their food took any longer then 10-15 minutes to prepare. The solution? Everything was frozen. Additionally, as a major chain restaurant, we were constantly offering different dinner deals that lowered the price and increased the amount of food our guests would receive.

While initially, this may seem great, I've become more inclined to explore a world of food and eating out that didn’t consist of typical chain restaurants. When I go out to eat, I now treat it as an experience with friends and family that doesn’t need to be rushed. I think as a nation we need to change our perception of food. Smaller, healthier, and freshly prepared dishes can create an unforgettable experience not only socially, but also for our bodies.

On that note, for lunch today I tried a new restaurant, and It was delicious! I plan on recreating some of the recipes and adding some personal touches!

Grilled Risotto Cakes:
Edamame beans, arugula and garlic lemon emulsion over a balsamic lentil sauce

Egg Plant Caponatta Crostini:
Sauteed Eggplant with tomatoes, garlic, onions, basil, mint, raisin, pine nuts, wine, herbs, spices and balsamic on a toasted baguette

South of the Border Sandwich:
Thinly sliced smoked cured ham and turkey breast on toasted English muffin with Cajun cream sauce. Served with bacon, grilled tomato, Parmesan cheese and onion rings. Served with fries and coleslaw.

Mediterranean Chicken Oregano:
Boneless chicken thigh meat, marinated with lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil, herbs, and spices. Grilled and served with rice and seasonal vegetables.
